Girl's Volleyball: Fox Chapel at Gateway

Latrobe at Gateway

The Gateway Gators open Big East Conference play at Antimarino Stadium in a physical battle against the Latrobe Wildcats.

Trailing late in the contest, Gateway mounts a fourth-quarter scoring drive orchestrated by sophomore quarterback Mayson Mitchell, who connects with Julian Dancear on a 21-yard screen pass for a touchdown following a crushing downfield block from senior wide receiver Jaden Stammer. Dancear provides explosive plays for the offense with a 35-yard run earlier in the game, while freshman Ned Reid sparks the offense with long kick returns and key receptions.

On the defensive side, senior linebacker Jackson Smith leads the Gators with critical open-field tackles and a clutch pass breakup in the end zone, supported by physical stops up front from Michael Burrows, Julius Clark, and Antonio Falo.

Despite Gateway’s second-half fight, Latrobe controls the pace with a heavy rushing attack to claim a 24-7 victory. Running back AJ Yabboa powers the Wildcats early with a 3-yard touchdown plunge, while reserve quarterback Drew Blossi breaks free for a 9-yard rushing score to extend the lead in the fourth quarter. Kicker Levi Porvasnik seals the game with a late field goal and extra points, while defensive stands by Dante Duran and Tristan Ley hold off Gateway’s comeback attempt.
