Football: Gateway at Woodland Hills

Connellsville at Gateway

On Senior Night at Antimarino Stadium, the Gateway Gators cap off a celebratory evening with an action-packed 5-3 victory over the Connellsville Falcons in a 4A Section 1 matchup.

Senior captain Camden Simon sets the tone immediately by scoring a goal off the opening kickoff just six seconds into the match. Gateway expands its early lead when sophomore Konrad Wierzchowski converts directly off a corner kick, followed shortly by a scoring strike from senior defender Max Fry. In the second half, Simon nets his second goal of the night off a cross from Jahari Scott, while sophomore goalkeeper Xavier Trainer turns away multiple dangerous shots to protect the lead. Scott ultimately seals the high-scoring section win with a late insurance goal, capping off Senior Night festivities for graduating seniors Max Fry, Amar Murrell-Merriweather, Camden Simon, Alex Hoffner, and Peyton Peacock.

Despite falling behind early, Connellsville showcases remarkable resilience with a multi-goal response. The Falcons narrow the deficit behind first-half goals from Connor Basinger and senior Jace Gratchic, followed by a second-half penalty kick conversion from senior Tyler Burkus to pull within a single score late. Freshman goalkeeper Miles Diesel withstands relentless pressure with several key saves, but Gateway’s offensive firepower secures the home victory to boost their postseason hopes.
