The Gateway Lady Gators open 5A Section 1 play at the Henry J. Furry Complex in a hard-fought battle against the North Hills Indians.
Gateway starts strong behind the setting of freshman Emma Saunders, who connects with Renata Diaz and senior Triniti Stevenson for key kills, while Caleigh Kendeall and freshman Aubrey Brown provide tough net play. Despite dropping tight opening sets, the Lady Gators mount several energetic rallies, supported by steady back-row defense from libero Lydia DiPalma and impactful serving runs from Macy Kweder, Jersey Rozier, and Kalee Kellman.
In a thrilling third frame, Gateway battles back from an early five-point deficit to tie the score late at 18-18 and 20-20, fueled by Sophia Segar and clutch front-row blocks by Kendeall. However, North Hills manages to stave off the comeback to complete a competitive 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-21, 25-23). The Indians are led by Emerson Schall, who delivers the match-clinching kill, alongside multi-point contributions from Wyndsor Ussack, Addison Zdinak, Kathryn Batykefer, and Stella Stango.
