On a night dedicated to honoring their seven graduating seniors, the Gateway Gators host the Plum Mustangs in a section matchup. Senior Chase Lewandowski ignites the Gateway offense early with a point in the middle, while fellow seniors Daniel Bozicevic and Aiden Coughran provide consistent power from the outside. Junior setter Canyon Hines orchestrates the Gators’ attack, frequently utilizing the 6’6″ frame of Donovan Shaffer and the versatility of Toktobek Kubanychbekov to challenge the Mustangs at the net.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the Gators find themselves in a grueling contest against a Plum squad determined to play “spoiler”. Gateway shows significant heart in the second and third frames, highlighted by a scoring strike from senior Madden Ferczak and back-row defensive efforts from Amar Murrell-Merriweather and senior Ethan Barbarino. However, Plum secures a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) behind the standout play of sophomore Bryce Nabozny, middle hitter Tavon Rupert, and senior libero Lucas Mikhnyuk. Although the loss impacts their lead in the section standings, the Gators remain in a strong playoff position.
